Normandy and the ETO. Saw action as bridge builder and combat soldier in Belgium, France, Holland, Luxemburg, and Germany. Helped bridge Roer and Rhine Rivers. Discharged at Camp Atterbury, In. on December 16, 1945. An experience I won't forget. |

On Feb. 27, 1945 stepped on a landmine with ending result of the loss of both legs below the kneees. April 29, 1945 landed in Charleston, SC. Transferred to Bushnell General Army Hospital in Brigham City, UT for surgeries in perparation for artificial legs. Discharged & walked out of Bushnell on Jan.29th 1946. Married my wife, Harriet, in May 1945. Retired from farming in 1980. | |
